The Osprey Story

Furniture Waste.webp

According to the EPA, furniture waste generated by Americans in 2017 totaled a staggering 12.2 million tons, and 80.2% of it went to landfill.

Origins

In early 2021, a need for a bed frame and access to a community maker's space reignited years of suppressed creativity. Though upon further exposure to common sourcing and building practices, it was quickly realized how environmental and health concerns have fallen by the wayside (virgin timber, toxic finishes, non-recyclable designs etc.). These glaring facts and the desire to create beautiful furniture pieces kickstarted the cornerstone of Osprey's vision: "Utilize primarily reclaimed lumber to showcase the missed potential of recyclable material and circular design processes". From pallets to reclaimed barnwood and beyond, this venture has not only provided a creative outlet, but a way to explore a new realm of environmental stewardship.
